I’d like to share my number one, top secret to an organized house! The best way to keep your home organized is not very exciting or very challenging. In fact, it’s quite simple, but here is it: Always Be Carrying Something.
Isn’t that a little too simplistic? I have a messy house!
I know, right?! So easy! But if you practice this little trick, your home will be so much more organized! When are you walking from the kitchen to the bathroom, scan the counter top. Is there a nail clipper that needs to be returned to it’s home in the vanity? The nail clipper is one less thing that will need to be taken care of later!
Remember that old saying? How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. By continuously taking small steps to clean and organize your home, you will make huge progress.
What if I’m busy? I don’t have time to do a whole house clean!
If you are in a hurry and don’t have time to fully complete a job, it doesn’t hurt to get it a step closer to completion. Let’s say that you are leaving the kitchen, heading to the bedroom, getting ready for work. You could grab the stack of papers to be filed. You don’t need to file them now, just bring them a step closer to their designated spot in the office. Drop them on the desk or on the chair and keep moving. The next time you are in the office, take a few minutes to file them. At least they aren’t sitting on the kitchen counter!
Several times a day, I’ll do a quick clean in the main living areas. I’ll fluff the pillows on the couch and restraighten the throw blankets. Then I’ll put of the toys in a pile for the kids to take care of. I’ll wipe down the counters in the kitchen and load any dishes into the dishwasher. Stray socks will get thrown into the hamper. But my number one tip for keeping a clean and organized house is Always Be Carrying Something! Just moving things closer to their assigned home will keep your home feeling clean and clutter-free.
Another benefit to this habit is that if you find something in your home that you don’t know where to put, you can either assign it a home or you can think about decluttering that item.
What do you think about this little habit? Do you think you could implemented it easily? Let me know if you start using the ABCs of Organization.
